‘Bye and thanks from Bob Bater

Thanks

I’m so grateful that I had such wonderful partners, families and friends, whom I loved and who loved me back. I am intensely proud of my two sons, Andro and Nick, who, like me, never aspired to conventional riches but made lives for themselves which are rich in more meaningful ways.

I am grateful too for the years with my first wife, Christine and my second wife Judith. But I am immeasurably grateful and so, so lucky, to have been able to share 40 years and more of my later life with Sonia, who knows no bounds to giving and caring and supporting – not just to me, to countless others also. Sonia, you were the light that let me see where I needed to go. My life was so much more worth living with you at my side.

Piece #3

This final piece by Scottish singer/songwriter Jo Hamilton, reminds us that, just because we’re dead, it doesn’t mean we’re gone.

Finally...

I don’t want a gravestone as such, since I’m inclined to be ‘composted’ and returned to the soil with a minimal carbon footprint. But if you want to erect some kind of marker, why not plant a tree using my composted remains, with these words from Jo Hamilton’s song on a simple plaque nearby?

Iʼll be in the fields and in the mountains
Iʼm in the earth and through the seasons
Iʼm in the stones and every blade of grass
Iʼm in the air…

So, thank you all for coming. I’ll make sure I return the compliment when it’s your turn to be recycled 😉. Now get out there and live life!

'Bye
